What are the Causes of Eating Disorders?

There are many causes of eating disorders - you can't just narrow it down to one because there are so many factors that influence the development of an eating disorder.

There are some common factors, however, that influence the cause of anorexia, or bulimia or any of the other eating disorders. For instance, self esteem is a big one, body image can be another, control is definitely a common theme among the eating disorders. That being said, just because some or even many of these factors may be present in a person's life, doesn't mean they will develop an ED.

I am supplying this information for, well, just that - informational purposes. There is no test to determine whether someone will or will not develop an eating disorder. What that means is that even if some of these factors were not present prior to onset, you or your loved one may very well still have developed an ED.
